Research institute

RIPLRT Institute

The Respiratory and Immunology Project and Laboratory Research Team combines exposure science, human-based immunotoxicology, and computational biology to turn environmental exposure data into predictive, prevention-focused tools for respiratory health in Puerto Rico, underserved communities, and beyond.

Collaborative, multi-cohort studies of indoor dust after hurricanes, fungal spores, airway microbiomes, and immune biomarkers.
Reproducible R, Python, and MATLAB pipelines with code and data shared openly.
Mentees embedded in every project, from concept development to dissemination.

Science communication

Vistazo A La Ciencia

A non-profit science communication platform from Puerto Rico that brings science to Spanish-speaking communities through plain-language presentations, expert interviews, and partnerships with other science communication organizations — talking about science from the audience's point of view.

Interview series with scientists, mentors, and mentees from under-represented groups.
Accessible bilingual content on health, environment, and preparedness.
Mentoring that fosters leadership in science communication among minority groups.
